At our practice, we always welcome generous young women who are interested in donating their eggs to infertile couples unable to have a child on their own. Many women who are in their later reproductive years or who have suffered from premature ovarian failure are unable to conceive, even with the use of In Vitro fertilization. For these women, egg donors offer new hope for achieving the family they have previously been unable to have.

Why Donate Eggs?

Many women who choose to become egg donors do so as a result of the experience of a close family member or friend who has struggled with infertility. Others simply want to help another woman conceive a child that she otherwise might be unable to have. The experience is incredibly rewarding, and most donors find immense satisfaction in providing the means to allow an infertile couple to achieve pregnancy, childbirth, and parenthood.

There is no cost to egg donors, and significant compensation is provided for the time and inconvenience required when donating eggs. If you choose to participate, your generous gift will be greatly appreciated by the couple you help.

How to Become a Donor

Potential egg donors at Northern California Fertility Medical Center, in the Sacramento area, must meet the following criteria:

• Must be a non-smoker

• Must be between the ages of 21 and 31 and in good general health

• Must not have any sexually transmitted diseases or infections

• Must live within two hours of our Roseville clinic

• Must be employed

• Must not use the birth control medication Depo-Provera®

• Must not be adopted

• Must not have any family members with inheritable genetic conditions

• Must not have had an immediate family member commit suicide

• Must not have lived or stayed in the United Kingdom for three months or longer, or elsewhere in Europe for five years or longer since 1980.

Women who meet these requirements and are interested in becoming egg donors should fill out our pre-qualification form. Once this information is received, we will schedule a meeting with our program's nurse coordinator. Before the appointment, a personal and family medical history form will be sent that should be filled out and brought to the consultation.

 

After the initial consultation, potential egg donors are required to meet with one of our infertility specialists to determine if donating eggs is medically advisable. This appointment is followed by a meeting with a social worker and a genetic counselor for further screening.

The Egg Donation Process

Once selected, an egg donor begins the donation process. This involves the use of ovarian stimulation medications, followed by an egg retrieval procedure.
